Jesse dodges a bullet

This youtube went viral through the sailing world last week.
Over 11,000 hits already!

Check it out. We were in 5th/6th when it happened. Lost atleast 5 boats in the debacle, but we were able to regain composure and pull together a 10th. We are lucky Jesse was not seriously injured...carbon fiber spinnaker poles are not forgiving usually.

  1. Hi Zan and Jesse,
That was a close call at the leeward mark and very glad no one was hurt in the incident. From what I observed you guys were in the 2-3 boat circle at the mark, before other boat entered, hence you had the right of way.
Two things to consider for the future:
    1. In close calls like this 'scream' your rights (room, room, room - or something like that) to alert other boat to keep clear.
    2. consider protesting other boat & appeal for YMP - due to no fault on your behalf (you were materially prejudiced by other boat). Appeal to jury to reinstate your finish to position you were in at time of incident.
Keep up the great effort! Gather you had really good starts which is excellent. So close ..... it often is at this level.
    Very best - Alan
